Designing a wireless pulse oximeter for children
This bachelor assignment was executed for Revalidation centre Roessingh in Enschede, to design a pulse oximeter for children between the age of 0-4 years, that uses the product for 24-hours a day. A pulse-oximeter measures the oxygen saturation of arterial blood vessels (SpO2), for healthy humans, this is 95% or more. With a pulse-oximeter, one could predict when an epileptic attack will occur. The result is a chest band with the battery, electronics and sensor placed on the chest. The product can be adjusted to the fit of the child, due to the Velcro placed in the back, the stretchy fabric, and shoulder straps. The band fits underneath the clothes of the child. A working prototype and a 3D model has been made of the final design.
