Redesigning the RasterMaster mower for usage with vulnerable objects

This thesis´ aim was to improve the mower by RasterMaster, such that it can be used in for cutting around vulnerable objects such as young trees without harming them, rather than only around solid metal poles.

The award-winning design of the mower allows cutting 360° around the poles in one go, saving the user half the time usually needed. However, the mower movements around the poles are mechanically forced by the poles themselves and risking permanent harm.

This issue was fixed by adding a sensor for object-detection, which triggers a hydraulic motor which automatically imitates the movements that were initially forced by the poles themselves. This way, the vulnerable object won’t be harmed.
