Redesign of the modern portafilter for a manual Espresso Machine using a user-oriented approach
At: Philips Consumer Lifestyle B.V.
The overall user-experience of a manual espresso machine is dependent on the use of the portafilter. Currently, emptying a portafilter requires excessive force, actively lowering the user-experience. The new redesign is based on extensive user-oriented research. The research encompasses personas and independent testing. A survey is constructed in order to integrate the feedback of the potential user in the design. The redesign requires significantly less force in order to be emptied. A secondary added value for the user introduced by this system is the fact that less residue remains in the basket after emptying. . The user-oriented approach has helped to create a product that satisfies the needs of the customer. The new mechanism enables the user to be in control and use the product safely without annoyance.
