Optimizing bearings in door hinges

The goal of the assignment is to research whether the currently used sliding bearings in door hinges can be improved. For this, an experiment was designed to test the forces subjected to the bearings. Literature research about material wear sets the basis of the improved designs. Three improved designs were made to solve the same problem with different approaches. The designs focus on providing a smooth counter surface for the bearings. The forces found during the experiments were applied to the design in SolidWorks simulation to test their strength. Material wear is hard to predict, but literature shows that these improvements will have a positive effect on the durability of the bearings.
