Consumers unboxing experience of e-commerce products

The way packaging interacts with customers in e-commerce is changing as packaging is not visible until one receives it. Although packaging should protect the product in the first place, it has the potential to influence the customer experience. The assignment, offered by Nederlands verpakkingscentrum, illustrate the importance of the unboxing experience as an image defining link for a product or brand can be created. The results presented in a design tool illustrate how a package for online ordered e-commerce products can be designed, according to factors that influence the unboxing experience. While keeping into account that values can differ among packaging solutions and customers expectactions variate as well, the tool categorizes attributes of influences among no-negative, neutral and beneficial values. Respectively defining an hierarchy of items that should be taken into account.
