Design paint shop drying rack to improve space efficiency and workflow
At: Fokker aerostructures
The objective for this assignment was to design a detailed concept for an improved drying rack which takes up less space on the factory floor within Fokkers paint shop and improves the workflow during the paint process. The result is a drying rack which can fold due to a cantilever construction while the products are laying on it. This creates an easily accessible single level rack while painting the products and a multilevel rack in storage which saves around 50% of floorspace compared to the current design. The workflow is further improved by including vibration dampers into the design that make it easier to push the rack across the metal grating floor in both the spraying and drying cabins.
