Furniture relocation by combining the virtual and tangible world

This thesis aims to improve the process of furniture relocation by combining the virtual and tangible world. For this, two prototype systems were developed. The first is an Augmented Reality app that overlays virtual furniture onto the tangible world. The app can be used to see if the user-owned furniture will fit in other places, such as new rooms.

The other prototype allows a user to walk around their new room in Virtual Reality. This can be done at furniture showrooms. Here, any furniture that is moved around will result in a tangible robot moving around small models of furniture. Similarly, if these models are moved around, they are updated in the virtual world. This allows users to co-design rooms together while seeing the changes happen in real-time.
