Textile waste reduction: A case study for TexPlus

At: Enschede Textielstad

The purpose of the thesis was to develop connected products to optimise textile recycling. The thesis looked into existing issues and barriers to textile recycling using exploratory research based on qualitative interviews with relevant stakeholders. Connected products were created for three key stakeholders: the producer, the consumer, and the retailer. For the producer, a unique textile label was designed with a QR code that links the physical product to a digital platform. For the consumer, a foldable home box with an infographic is offered to collect textile waste at home. Last for the retailer, an approachable and attractive redesigned take-back box is offered in the store that stimulates the textile collection.
