Faster boarding time is just one intervention away; a design study that researches design solutions to cause effective crowd deviation on Dutch platforms using behavior change theories
At: ProRail
As per 2030 the national number of 1,3 million train users a day will be increased with a percentage between 30 and 40. Travelers should be informed better about their optimal waiting position at platforms in order to board efficiently. The more even the crowd deviation, the shorter boarding time is.
Currently, travelers are halting around the ascending and descending point on platforms. These include stairs, escalators, and elevators. This study focuses on behavior change techniques to implement in a design intervention. The proposed design solution consists of a short-term and a long-term concept. The short term solution uses existing materials and optimizes the uniformity of visual cues. The long-term solution uses augmented reality as an innovative information provision tool allowing users to put an informative filter on reality.
