Reusable Packaging for Dairy Products in Supermarkets
At: University of Twente
This thesis examines the feasibility of implementing reusable/recyclable packaging systems for dairy products in supermarkets while maintaining customer satisfaction. Two comparison tables were developed, one for systems and one for materials. These tables are based on existing literature. Another tool that was created was a list of user requirements, a survey, with 84 participants, which provided insights into the customer needs, which were translated into user requirements. Main concerns were inconvenience, lack of information, hygiene, and limited accessibility. The future designer can determine with the help of the tables which system or material is most feasible in their situation. Feasible systems are deposit containers, dispenser systems, and door-to-door delivery. Feasible materials are glass, plastic, and metal. A reusable/recyclable packaging system for dairy is feasible; however, user requirements must be considered during the design process.
