Surgery in 15 Minutes: Design of an airdroppable operating room for the first 72 hours of disaster response
At: Marshall NL B.V. and Holland Medical Services
This project presents the design of a compact, airdroppable surgical unit to be used in the first 72 hours after a disaster, when access to clean surgical environments is critical but often unavailable. Developed in collaboration with Holland Medical Services and Marshall Group, the unit-called the Compact Mobile Sterile Operating Room (C-MSOR)-can be deployed within 15 minutes and fits on a Euro pallet. It features a medically clean inner chamber with filtered airflow, climate control, and space for two surgeons. The design significantly improves access to life-saving surgeries in remote, disaster-struck areas where traditional mobile hospitals cannot reach.
