Developing a protective bumper system for storage containers
At: Salland Storage
This thesis presents the design and development of a protection system for Salland Storage's storage containers. These containers are rented out to construction sites where they are often subjected to impacts from forklifts. These impacts lead to significant damage and high repair costs. To extend the container's service life and reduce maintenance costs, a durable bumper system is designed to withstand impacts from forklifts. The design process involves research and analysis on construction sites, forklifts, existing solutions, and the storage containers themselves. After this, design concepts are generated and developed into one final design. This design is simulated and evaluated using Ansys Workbench R1 and a prototype. The tests in the relevant environment showed promising results. Further design improvement and tests are required to ensure reliability and feasibility
