Improved humidity and temperature regulation in storage containers
At: Salland Storage
The Salland Storage self-storage containers require redesigns to improve humidity regulation and prevent internal condensation. To gain an understanding of the challenge, literature research and empirical testing were conducted. Several possible sub-solutions were identified and combined into multiple design concepts, from which a final concept was selected. The proposed design includes a cool roof coating to reduce solar heat gain and a vapor-permeable membrane with adaptive moisture permeability to allow moisture diffusion to the outside while preventing moisture influx. It is recommended to add a demand-controlled ventilation system to increase effectiveness. While the redesign enhances moisture and temperature regulation in theory, exact performance metrics still need validation and verification, which requires real-world testing. The proposed solution is modular and adaptable to future needs, offering a solid foundation for further innovation.
