Switching privacy:  designing a consumer-friendly smart foil solution for homes

At: Studio Überdutch

The graduation project at Studio Überdutch explored bringing advanced smart foil technology, capable of instantly switching between transparent and opaque at the touch of a button, into everyday homes. The result is Lynka, a modular system of PDLC panels designed for flexible DIY installation on walls or ceilings using screws or adhesives. Unlike traditional curtains or blinds, Lynka preserves daylight and views while ensuring privacy. Its panels combine in width and height through connector pieces, adapting to various window sizes. A discreet sliding rail allows panels to overlap, slide aside or be unhooked entirely, keeping windows easy to clean and open. This consumer-friendly design blends advanced privacy tech with subtle aesthetics and simple installation, transforming smart foil from a costly, commercial product into a fitting solution for cozy residential spaces.
