Bachelor Assignment

In this research a range of thermoplastic elastomers using different types of recycled plastic and recycled tire rubber has been produced. These materials have been assessed by testing for mechanical material properties, in order to compare different factors in the compositions as well as define suitable applications for these materials and provide suggestions for further research. The relevance of this research lies in the lack of sustainable tire rubber recycling and applications for said material, as well as a potential to replace thermoset rubbers with easier to recycle thermoplastic elastomers. This research resulted in a number of conclusions including the benefits of polypropylene over polyethylene, as well as insight in the different methods of rubber recycling and the effect on the material properties.
