Designing, Fabricating, and Testing an Inter-machine Connector Plate
At: Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Twente
The project aims to design, fabricate, and testing of a connector plate that enables precise and repeatable transfer of build plates between the MetalFAB1, Makino D500, Zeiss Scanbox, and CUT AM 500 scanner using the Zero-point clamping system. The plate achieved an accuracy of 1.9 µm according to simulations. The final design is CNC-machined from 316L stainless steel; however, due to the machining complexity and time limitations, the adapter couldn't be produced. This innovation significantly improves workflow efficiency by reducing the camping time from two hours to under ten minutes. It supports automated hybrid manufacturing at the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Twente.
