Bachelor Assignment

This bachelor thesis focused on designing a sustainable coffee tray using innovative materials developed by Coffee Based, a company that transforms coffee waste into valuable products. Coffee Based has created a granulate for injection moulding and a Coffee Panel, a composite material made from coffee waste and MDF. The project explored the feasibility of these materials while creating a tray design that aligns with Coffee Based's branding and product range.

The design process combined research into ergonomics, material properties, and user needs with iterative design and testing. The outcome is a finalized coffee tray design using the Coffee Panel, ready for sale by Coffee Based. Additionally, three injection moulding concepts were developed, which the company will further optimize for production.

This project demonstrates how sustainability and innovation can drive practical design solutions, showcasing the diverse opportunities within Industrial Design Engineering.
