Redesigning a Contact Lens Solution Cap
At: MB Optiek
This bachelor project investigates how packaging design can support safer use of medical products by influencing user behavior. Many products, such as contact lens solutions, are safe only for a limited period after opening. However, users often forget the opening date, as this information is not reliably stored in long-term memory and is easy to overlook during daily routines.
The project resulted in a bottle cap concept with an integrated visual time indicator that clearly communicates the passage of time after opening. The work focused on graphical principles such as visual hierarchy, intuitive color progression, and attention-guiding layouts to reduce confusion and prevent unnecessary alarm. By combining behavioral insights with technical feasibility, the final design demonstrates how clear visual communication can improve user compliance without adding complexity to existing packaging systems.
