Re-designing the hydrofoil mast connection to a 3D printed board
At: Harlem kitesurfing x Wyve
This thesis focuses on re-designing the hydrofoil mast-board connection of a kitesurf hydrofoil
board manufactured with a 3D-printed lattice core and composite sandwich skins, aiming to
improve structural performance and production repeatability in a real industrial collaboration.
Within the available test range, the PVC two-rail configuration performed best and most
consistently. All three rail samples reached the maximum available load (132.2 kg),
corresponding to approximately 1.39 kNm, without visible structural failure (testing was stopped
because no additional weights were available). This indicates at least a ≥1.39 capacity relative
to the 1.2 kNm design target within the tested range.
