Designing and optimizing a heating system for a storage container

At: Universal Storage Containers

During the winter, the temperatures in storage containers often drop below the freezing point. Items that are stored inside, are exposed to cold temperatures, which can cause deterioration. Universal Storage Containers, a company specialized in storage containers, desires a solution to this problem. This bachelor assignment intends to find this solution. Through various research, knowledge is gathered about the containers, the different types of heating systems etc. This knowledge is tested by running simulations and performing experiments. The solution resulted in a radiant panel, mounted against the ceiling of the container with magnets, which delivers the required heat to sufficiently heat the container. This solution turned out to be the most effective, space-efficient and least complex. In addition, the escaping heat is reduced by better insulating the container with a reflecting insulative cover inside the container.
