Design of a wearable sensor to assist hip replacement patients during their physical therapy exercises

At: Awear

The time physical therapy patients spend with their therapists is extremely short. This sometimes makes it hard for therapists to correctly and completely guide their patients in their recovery process. Start-up company Awear is currently working on a sensor that could help physical therapists in this process. The data collected from these sensors can help therapists determine whether their patients perform exercises correctly, so they won't have to do so during sessions and can thus focus on helping their patients.

In this thesis a product has been designed that implements the sensor so it fits the patient's needs. The final product consists of a stretchy strap, with Velcro on the outside to which the sensor can be applied. The values generated by the sensor will be sent to an application, giving feedback to both patient and physical therapist.
