Optimizing Physical Access Control Policy by Smartly Utilizing Employee Attributes
Physical access control is a crucial aspect of security in any organization. It is essential for protecting personal and company assets and therefore supports the achievement of organizational goals. Company policies and rules define who becomes access to which physical zone at which time. Managing these access rights often requires time-consuming administration. The aim of this research was to explore possibilities of automation and enhancement of the system while ensuring that it is still compatible with real-world business environments. It should be possible to adapt to diverging, existing security policies and still maintain transparency within the system. The final model can be described as both, a role- and attribute-based physical access control system. Here, using employee attributes to determine access rights and define roles is referred to as role-attribute-based.
