Creating a product for oyster reef restoration out of the BESE-reef paste

Natural Oyster reefs are practically extinct in Europe, but have a great positive influence on our water quality, biodiversity and shoreline protection. The company BESE BV developed a biodegradable material: The BESE-reef paste to which oyster larvae like attaching to, with the purpose of restoring European Oyster reefs.
By conducting research, developing concepts and creating prototypes a product was created out of the BESE-reef paste, for the potential restoration of European Oyster reefs. The final product is the BESE-leaf, for which the production process and the implementation method are worked out and described in detail. Prototypes of the BESE-leaf were successfully created, however, to achieve oyster reef restoration further research is required.
