The BADAL X-Protect for Reducing Infection Risks

Amputees that experience issues with the socket of their prosthesis can consider an implant like the BADAL X™. This implant is attached to inside the remaining bone and protrudes the skin of the stump, connecting the prosthesis directly to the remaining bone. Despite its added benefits like increased comfort and mobility, the implant has a considerable risk of infection. The BADAL X-Protect aims to reduce this infection risk. At the point where the skin is protruded, a self-healing tetra-hydrogel seal made of PEG or a zwitterionic polymer is added to the original implant. The seal is loaded with bactericidal ions, is inherently antibacterial, and is compatible with the immune system. Additionally, tuned diffusivity of the seal regulates bacterial permeability.
