Analysis and redesign of the WILA ATC system

WILA produces tooling and clamping for press brakes, which are used to bend metal plates. Since 2006 they have an ATC system, which can automatically change tools using a gripper mounted on a robot arm. This assignment has analysed the current ATC system, to determine its strong points and where it can be further improved. This has led to a redesigned ATC system, with a lower tooling cost, improved reliability and repairability and better integration with sensors, while retaining the high level of functionality of the current ATC.
