(Re)design of a disposable medication delivery device for use with soft mist inhalation technology in an invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) circuit
At: Medspray
In collaboration with Medspray, this study sought to enhance medication delivery devices (MDDs) used in invasive mechanical ventilation, particularly integrating Soft mist technology. The research involved iterative cycles of design, prototyping, and testing. Key design elements like cross-sectional geometry, length and the aerosol inlet's positioning were found to be crucial for performance. Testing methods such as conductivity test, fluorescein solution deposition and laser diffraction assessed the MDD's efficiency in terms of deposition and droplet size. While the study offers a structured analysis of different design elements of MDD on its performance, it highlights the need for broader testing to ensure real-world applicability.
