A critical analysis of Portable Healthcare Facilities in disaster and rescue zones

At: Humanitarian Engineering Research Group

This project was initiated with the Humanitarian Engineering research group at the University of Twente, in collaboration with Professor Noemi Bitterman, from Technion Institute of Technology, Israel. The research goal was to analyse and optimise the design of current solutions for portable healthcare, used during natural disaster situations like earthquakes, floods, or wildfires. With the ongoing climate change issue natural disasters become more frequent, jeopardising the lives of thousands of people. Secondary factors like the COVID-19 outbreak cause additional challenges to disaster response missions. The proposed solution aims to improve the industry by recommending an efficient and reliable design that focuses on shortening the time of deployment, optimising the users' experience as well as providing intuitive, sustainable, and safe solutions for the facilities.
