Acorns, 'The Acorn Cooperation,' is a dutch project group who envisions a future in the Netherlands where this edible nut plays a vital role in the local diet. Their ultimate goal is to build a food system by fostering local acorn farms and communities. Their current challenge is efficiently hulling acorns since hulling by hand is too laborious and time consuming. Other general nut hullers do not work optimally due to the differences in nut structure. Therefore, in this project an acorn specific nut hulling machine is designed which utilizes a double roller technique. Finally, a SolidWorks CAD model is created for future simulations and prototyping with the hope to improve the potential for wider adoption of acorn-based products in the local food industry.
