Redesign and Development of a Certified Ladder System

This project was initiated with Wemeco Products BV, a leading manufacturer of high-quality innovative metal products, in collaboration with Dr. Salomé Sanchez and Dr. E. van der Heide from the University of Twente. The research goal was to redesign and develop a certified ladder system that complies with stringent EU norms and standards, enhancing safety and performance. Wemeco's current offerings include uncertified custom-designed ladders, which are inefficient and require frequent redesigns. With increasing market demand for certified ladder systems integrated with hatches, this project aimed to provide a solution that ensures consumer safety, market access, and quality assurance. By leveraging design methodologies and simulation techniques, this project focused on developing a robust and reliable ladder system. The proposed solution not only aligns with Wemeco's portfolio, but also provides an optimized certified ladder system using significantly less materials than original designs.
