Supporting face-to-face communication in neurodiverse settings using designed artefacts

At: University of Twente

Communication in neurodiverse settings often comes with a lot of challenges due to the fact that neurodiverse and neurotypical individuals have different needs and wants when it comes to communication. The Crdl was employed at a daycare in settings of children with autism and their supervisors. Based on the interactions between the children, supervisors, and Crdl together with the results of the literature study and interviews, five design principles were identified that designers can employ to design artefacts that will support neurodiverse communication between children with autism and others.
