The Integrated Bike Lock-Helmet thesis explores an innovative concept to enhance cyclist safety and convenience by combining a bike lock with a helmet. Initially, the project aimed to incorporate a lock chain into a foldable helmet design. However, research revealed significant challenges in material properties, safety standards, and security ratings, leading to a shift in approach. The focus changed to integrating the helmet into the lock mechanism, prioritizing safety while maintaining lock functionality. Collaborating with industry partners and experts, the project developed three concept designs using the Closca helmet as a base. These concepts feature a container-lock mechanism that securely stores the helmet when not in use and includes a separate chain lock for the bike. This solution aims to encourage helmet use and provide adequate security, meeting insurance company requirements.
