Re-design of a drone for weight reduction and increased durability through Additive Manufacturing

At: Corvus Drones

A drone, also known as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft without a human pilot inside. Drones have multiple uses ranging from their initial use of military surveillance to photography, medical transport, crop monitoring and much more.

The assignment for this bachelor thesis partnered with Corvus Drones focuses on safety for a greenhouse drone. This was achieved through a literature and market review which led to design requirements, ideation and concept generation. These were evaluated through simulations, testing and prototyping of the drone frame with the goal to be lighter and more durable. A light weight design increasing performance and safety.

The study also focuses on additive manufacturing and its many benefits. This fostered a deeper understanding of drone frame design and additive manufacturing.
