Redesing of the current orthosis

At: Universiteit Twente

Perteon Seats produces customized seating orthoses for wheelchairs. An orthosis is a device that prevents deformities and ensures a good posture. Many clients suffer from spasticity. Therefore, a therapeutic feature should be included in the orthoses. The research has shown that linear vibrations at a frequency of 50-100Hz and at an amplitude of 0,5-1,5mm can relax the muscles and thus reduce the spasticity.

A vibration feature is added to the current seating orthosis. Voice coil transducers are generating linear vibrations in the region of the hamstrings. The transducers are integrated smoothly in the seating surface so that the tailored support of the orthosis still is guaranteed. The user can control the activation, the intensity and the region of the vibration so that a pleasant vibration can be discovered.
