The goal was to design an electric lock which is integrated into a bicycle frame and which can easily be redesigned to be sold as a different type of lock, i.e. a chain lock.
To make it worthwhile for AXA, a couple of things must be considered. The lock is designed in such a way that the production of the parts is as easy as possible. Also, this lock does not need any screws, this way it will save lots of time during assembly. And, a couple adjustments are made to make assembly of mounting faster and cheaper.
The lock is designed to meets the ART cat. 2 requirements, which is mandatory for insurance. Among other things able to withstand a pulling force of 5000 Newton (which is comparable to a weight of 500 kg).
