The current shackles are causing a lot of troubles for the employees and employers at the Heavy
Lifting and Offshore industry. Most problems can be narrowed down to the use of steel and the
weight as result of that. To overcome the problems, a new type of shackle is developed with
lightweight materials, new locking system and improved user experience.
A weight reduction of 70 percent has been achieved, resulting in a synthetic shackle of less than
11 kilograms with a maximum breaking load of 220 ton.
This design of a synthetic shackle will be developed into a real product after this project.
