Themans, a company in hinges and locks, wants to develop a new door handle spring, which is universally usable, revisable between left and right turning and fits in existing door handles. The aim of the thesis is to research possible new development for a door handle spring. To answer this the current door handle springs, possible spring mechanism and materials are researched. This resulted in three design directions. These directions translated into seven prototypes, which have been tested on the working principle. The test lead to five final concepts. The concepts are set out against the requirements and evaluated with the employers of Themans. One of the concepts came as best out of both tests and is worth developing further.
