A Universal Solution for Door Handle Springs

At: Themans

During this bachelor’s assignment at Themans, a product was moved from an analysis phase to a near-production phase. Some door handles need a spring system to assist them in returning to the neutral position. This project was aimed at developing an alternative for current methods, that could be used universally and is more durable than current systems. Using previously made analysis and by diving a bit deeper a concept was developed that could meet all requirements. This consisted of a torsion spring positioned around the mounting point of the door handle. An actuator that is mounted to the door handle deflects that spring when the handle is turned. The spring then provides a force to move it back. With a small change to the actuator, this product will be ready for production.
