In animal laboratories so called transfer stations are used to safely clean the cages of research mice, without risk of infection for both the user and the mice. Research was conducted on the current use and procedures regarding cleaning and general use, as well as an analysis of the competitors’ stations. Continuing on the results of this research, certain aspects like the work surface, several accessories, the lighting and cleaning procedure are redesigned to increase the ergonomics of the station and decrease the stress for the animals. These additions can all be added on a short-term basis in the currently produced models, while a design suggestion is done for the long-term, incorporating new innovations and workflows in animal research laboratories.
